Sunday School

FPC website 6

At First Presbyterian Church we believe that people of all ages should have an opportunity to learn and grow in their faith.

Sunday School Classes

Whether a person was raised in a Christian faith or is just starting out, the best learning is done with others. We benefit from having a fun, relaxed environment where we can ask questions, share ideas, and feel supported.  We also believe that Christian Education shouldn’t be limited to Sundays. We have opportunities to engage throughout the week and offer various seasonal programs throughout the year.

what we do

Traditional Sunday School

Our traditional Sunday School classes are offered before worship on Sunday mornings September through June and are separated by age. We have classes available for those in preschool through high school. For the youngest visitors, we introduce Bible stories and engage in Bible themed crafts. As children age, the stories and their themes become more complex. We encourage the kids to apply the message of the day to their real lives. By the time the students reach high school, they are able to develop an entire worship service themselves. The congregation looks forward to our annual “Youth Sunday” every spring.

Adult Learners

For our adult learners, Pastor Sue hosts a weekly Bible Study on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:00 am via Zoom. During this gathering time we discuss the scriptures for the upcoming Sunday’s worship service. Here at First Presbyterian, we follow the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL). You might ask, “What is that?” The RCL is a three-year cycle of weekly lections and is built around the seasons of the Church Year. During most of the year, the lections consist of a reading from the Hebrew Bible, a Psalm, a reading from the Epistles, and a Gospel reading. Generally, the sermon of the week is a reflection on the Gospel reading. See? You’re learning already!
