Transitional Pastor Opening
First Presbyterian Church of Puyallup
Puyallup, Washington
First Presbyterian Church of Puyallup (FPCP) is seeking a full-time transitional pastor upon retirement of our
pastor of 21 years in September 2024.
ABOUT US
We are a Matthew 25 church which focuses on building congregational vitality by challenging people and
congregations to deepen their faith and get active and joyfully engaged with their community and the world. We
believe in eradicating systemic poverty by working to change laws, policies, plans, and structures in our society
that perpetuate economic exploitation of people. We seek to dismantle structural racism by advocating and
acting to break down the systems, practices and thinking that underlie discrimination, bias, prejudice, and
oppression of people of color. At First Presbyterian Church we are committed to dismantling structures which
oppress the LGBTQ+ community and all others who experience injustice.
We gather every Sunday to worship our Lord and Savior. We pray for each other, our community, and the
world. We study the Bible, we look out for each other, and we follow the example of Jesus whose arms
continue to be open wide. Through the voice of the Holy Spirit, we hear a calling to stand with those who have
been marginalized for too long by both church and culture. First Presbyterian Church of Puyallup is a place
where all are welcomed and affirmed regardless of race or cultural background, sexual orientation, or gender
identity. We express these values by supporting many ministries including the Puyallup Food Bank, Hagar’s
Community Church at the Washington Corrections Center for Women, Church of the Indian Fellowship, and
Coffee Oasis for youth experiencing homelessness. We share our building and grounds with ECEAP Preschool
Program, and several 12 step programs for addiction.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for the following skills and traits in our Transitional Pastor: a good listener who embraces our
multi-generational community; someone who is imaginative and inspiring with fresh ideas; a good
communicator who is collaborative and has the ability to provide leadership development; an open and
affirming person with a sense of humor who is supportive of the music ministry and can teach and preach from
the Bible; a leader who is able to help us to learn from the past and lean into the future.
The leadership of our church, in collaboration with our congregation, has been engaged in a process called
Project Regeneration, to discern the future ministries we will embrace. Through this Holy Spirit led initiative
we hope to evolve into the vital and vibrant congregation that God is preparing us to be. We seek a Transitional
Pastor who can assume primary responsibilities of preaching, teaching, and care of congregants while walking
with us on this journey as we search for a pastor to lead us into our future.
We would love to hear from you.
Praise God!
